The Last Queen

by Uel Ceballos, circa 2005

Long hooked nose and masculine features.

They saw me glamorous, gave high price
for my possessions.
Young, enchanting
charistmatic and seductive.
I ruled over the Egypt land
bearing the veins run by King Ptolemy's
blood.
Heavy garland shimmering over me,
shrewdly with envious sovereignty.
They stripped me, I lost
my crown and was banished from my
own land.
Caesar came then. He marched and
seized
the gift of Osiris.
I breathed in the rug until he saw me
there!
Caesar the emperor
of momentous, historical empire
was enthralled by the last Queen's
sting...
We shared a son
but fate betrayed him and stabbed him
to death.
I found myself another man.
Having myself clad in Venus gown,
I met Mark in Tarsus.
Once again
I took advantage of my irresistible charm.
Though I wasn't his only woman
because I shared him with the highness
half-blood.
This I would say, his soul was mine.
Gray and red clouds drifted in the sky.
Mark died because of me
and my strength was badly empowered.

Here now in my golden bed I have finished a letter.

Carrying the burden of imperious history
I want to rest in undisturbed peace.
I hope Octavian, the Highness
bury me in my husband's tomb.
No matter what, he must do so the
Last Queen's plea.
Oh please, where's the basket of figs!
I'm ready for the bites of deadly asp!

Moon in Fire

by Uel Ceballos, circa 2003

It was late in the evening I was walking,
the night was obscure and quite tingling.
Emotion was blend with the insects crooning
from the nearby bushes there were crickets sounding.

I was walking alone and no one was around.
In my hand was my guitar and I sat in the lawn.
I started to strum and the night began to hum
The wind gave a kiss and the trees
commenced to dance.

The shadows in the grasses were moving
left and right.
The mystic moon above showered the
night a beaming light.
I was amazed when I looked to the sky
because encircled by the stars above was a
a moon in ardent fire.

The night wind blew and I shivered
It made me sad, it was you I remembered.
In this night so bright we were walking together
with our hands entwined in that cold
night of September.

Though I knew that we were now afar
Somehow I thought that you were wishing
on the same star
As I prayed in the meadow while the
scarlet started to bloom
I stood upright and watched the blazing moon.

Duped by Fate: The End of Dissimulation

by: Uel Ceballos

Woman:

I Love You...
Emotionally moved by your constant presence
Clasped in the arms of compassionate solicitude
I rested there in fetal curve, in my new orb with you

Man:

This is goodbye now forevermore...
For I have lost myself again in the sea of deception
Forgive me for pulling you down in my doomed world
Just when I thought you could light up my world,
I have darkened yours.

Woman:

You tugged me out from the entangled web of doom
From what seemingly an inescapable derangement
Hand entwined, we hurried on our way out
From the intricate spun of paths that we were both caught into

Man:

We were both the darkness searching for the light
How blind was I to not see? What have I done?
You were strong as the stag but your heart was like the sand
Pristine and granting, but weak to the cruel ocean.

Woman:

A dose of sweet escape anesthetized us from the searing sorrow
Our analgesic to the scorching ache of our detrimental past
You were my asylum, as well as I was yours
We created an estranged world, a refuge for us alone

Man:

Have you not seen that I was the merciless salt on your wound?
I wasn't the cure but I was the catalyst on your slow death
Yes you were my sanctuary, but I was your hell
In your world I spread horrors
I wasn't worthy to be your man at all

Woman:

Until in one of those twilight you unburden the hidden truth
You plunged deeply into my heart the dagger of veracity
I was just an ephemeral deliverance from your concrete existence
But never would I be your lifetime reality

Man:

For I was eternally jailed to the terror of my past
To which you were never a part
How could I take you for granted when all you needed was to be loved?
But if you were on my shoes would you rather walk the path?

Woman:

I have fallen once again in the delicate mesh of deception

Man:

Fate was ever so cruel to me
I was forever the subject for its insanity

Woman:

For how could a fallacy finds a room where everything seemed so good and true?

Man:

Not until your departure that it was revealed to me;
The life indeed was full of ferocity

Woman:

For you I was just a sweet illusion, but for this I couldn't go on

Man:

What took so long the light in you?
When I finally saw it

Woman:

This is goodbye now, forevermore...

Man:

It was out of my grasp anymore
I love you...

Nothingness

by: Uel Ceballos

For here I am
At the mercy of my own conscience
That while I behold the glorious vastness
Of the sky
I hearkened sincere and true to the
Whispers of my soul

But those I cannot comprehend,
Not with my human senses
For how can a mortal understands
A soul without a spiritual guidance

So I just let my mind adrift in
Nothingness
And look beyond the clouds
As far as my sight can get
I know I’m not a hopeless case
That’s what I think so at the least

For here I am
Battling against my own self
Casting away any pieces of guilt
That brings no help to make
Me feel at ease

For how can I go on with life
If I’m too powerless to forgive myself
I’m all too beaten to my own account
It’s me indeed who put myself
To such wreck

So I look up in the sea of white and blue
Hoping to find the answers
To end all my woes
I know I’m not a hopeless case
If that would serve at least
To grant me any solace

Hallucination of the perplexed mind

In black and white they protest in unison
They carry no banner, they carry not a thing
All I see are their lips that mouth some words I cannot read
Their hands are raised up in the air in clenched fist
They seemed to be foolish; mad while they are marching towards me.

Thundering breaks into my senses
Shattering my world into splintering pieces
The terror of their voices cutting through my flesh
Pronouncing me guilty of the same sins they also committed
Are their roaring just parts of my nightmare?
Wake me up! The howling steals me out of my wits!

This place stinks of the capital sins
A hellish balm that enters my nasal passage hall
With infernal smell that sets my mind to spin adrift
I catch the mixed scents of those souls swarming in my vision
Sweet lavender fragrance that blends awfully with the stinks of rotten corpses

Moreno Ballerino

by: Uel Ceballos

In the silence of the windy darkness
He stood there atop the reddish-brown cliff
Arms outstretched with his face tilted up to the heaven
His hair was the waves of raven that shone through the night’s luminance
His countenance was the exquisite onyx, veined by the lovely moonbeams

He was an upright figure, few inches away from the edge of the bank
His arms spread in horizon as he lifted himself on tiptoe
And pushed his magnificent chest upward to the velour skies
Like a Greek God who bathed himself of soft rays from above
He stood there upon the green carpet; his silhouette was sharp against the moonlight

His face was sweet as honeydew, such nobleness it was
With magnetic set of eyes that reflected the unfathomed blackness of the galaxy
His nose towered like a proud fortress
And his cheeks were pairs of cinnamon uphill
His sensuous lips were perfect mosaic of ripened berries where sugar flowed so graciously

Bare-naked was he, down to the fair robustness of his waist,
His navel was the centerpiece to the breathtaking Pacific
As he lunged on one foot and laid back in a rapid shift of weight
His brawny shoulder magnified through the night
As the sturdy formations of grand valleys and smooth rocks

Then he stood tall and in the rhythm of gushing wind
He made a graceful whirl on one leg
While the other limb was lifted backward, the stalwart knee was in a beautiful bend
He swayed in the air like a bronze feather cutting softly through the dense of mist
Then he glided backward and turned away from the edge of the deadly cliff

In a lovely twirl, he leapt to the air with one leg straight to front
The other was extended backward stretching up to the marvelous clouds
He was the eminent prince among the herd of stags
Thundering in a grandeur spring across the sparkling meadow
His hair was the glimmering crown of antlers; his face was the majestic flamingo moon

He wheeled down in fluid motion, touching the earth on his supple legs
In his arms were formed the splendid trails along the muscular mountains
His hands lengthened up with firm force, reaching out to the stars
His body glistened beautifully in the fingers of moonlights,
He glided and twirled as if there was no morrow, breathing the air of the dark
‘Til he lied down on his back with arms spread wide, he waited for the morning light

Wish it was the game

(by: Uel Ceballos)

A child runs forever inside of us
No matter how we aged by the years that expired
We just couldn’t let go of the playful soul
Eyes always sparkle at every mystery to explore

We would always love to stomp on muddy pool
Reveling on the sticky earth that bathed our boots
We grabbed the mud by hands shaping it into balls
We brought our hands to our faces
We had almost eaten the soil

We ran to the stretch of lands wild and free
We jumped high to the air in a sprite spree
We rolled in the meadow and got covered in dusty grasses
We played hide and seek – loved to hide and fancied to be sought after

We danced in the rain with mouth wide open
Catching drops of hopes
We ran in full spirits ‘til we dropped dead panting like dogs

In our grown up years
The child within us still exists

Our magnetism to dirt would never cease
Still covered ourselves with earthly stains
The agitation to explore would fire up even more
We consumed our time in various paces
Sometimes gradual, but often in haste

Our hairs disheveled badly while we tasted drip sweats
Some instances would give us scratches and even mild bruises

High-spirited we rolled in enthrallment of exceeding ecstasy
We danced in perfect impromptu movements
To the beat we swayed with the compelling rhythm
Until we burst out in exploding joy
‘til we lied down catching our breath
We panted really hard like mad dogs

Such a moment of incomparable exaltation
Only bore us scars that never heal
That upon the star every night I say
That of all the fun we did
Wish it was the game we never played.
